| Although it is difficult to see the name in a web version of the photo, the boat is the Marmot. |
| This photo helps to explain the ways. (See also the Thursday September 8, 2005 photo.) The cradle is easy to identify in this angle, as are the rails leading into the water. There are rollers on top of the cradle, and when the vessel is parallel with the large timbers on either side, it is pulled sideways (side-hauled) until it is in the desired position. This frees the cradle up for another trip. You can see one of the blocks and cable for the side-hauling operation sitting on top of one of the timbers on the left. In the background is Warren Camp, which no longer looks like that. (See June 19, 2005) |
