Reindeer Moss and Other Tundra Plants
Reindeer moss was originally named for its value as a food source for reindeer and caribou. (It is actually a lichen, which is a combination of a fungus and an alga. The fungus and the alga share a symbiotic relationship and form a new plant.) There are several other tundra plants present in this photo as well. Autumn is a particularly beautiful time on the tundra because of the colors.
