| The two gentlemen shared the same birthday, April 5th. Their posing together was an annual event and they probably celebrated at least 30 birthdays together. At least one of the celebrations was described in the Anchorage Daily Times. According to the April 8, 1940, issue, a birthday celebration was held for Captain Martin Monsen, who was at that time a 50-year resident and pioneer of Naknek. The guest of honor at the turkey dinner was Oscar Lundgren, many years with Red Salmon. According to the article, Capt. Monsen's wife, Martha Monsen prepared the well-appointed, candle-lit dinner for 20. His eldest daughter, Mrs. Wallace Freitas, baked the cake. |
