From the Tender to the Cannery
Compare this photo of a fish elevator to the Bumble Bee elevator, shown on September 30, 2005. The photo above was taken at Graveyard Cannery. This "ladder" type of elevator has the advantage of automatically compensating for changes in the tide. Elevators such as the one at Bumble Bee had to be continually monitored and adjusted as the tide flowed or ebbed.
The tender is probably the Marmot and the photo was taken in about 1951 or 1952. The identity of the gentleman on the right, perched on the stanchion, is unknown.
