St. Basil's Cathedral
This famous Russian architectural masterpiece was built in 1561. It is comprised of nine individual chapels, each crowned with a unique onion dome and each devoted to a separate saint. The ninth chapel houses the tomb of the church's namesake, Basil the Blessed. The other eight small churches are built around the main dome, with paths from one to the other.
The bronze statue in front honors Minin and Pozharsky, who rallied Russia's volunteer army during the Time of Troubles and drove out the invading Polish forces. Dmitry Pozharsky was a prince and Kuzma Minin was a butcher.
