| Fort Rich Fire, from Arctic Valley, On Tuesday |
| This fire, which started Tuesday, has now burned over 80-acres on Fort Richardson. Although it hasn't been fully determined, it may have been caused by sparks coming from Alaska Railroad workmen grinding welds on the railroad. The hot, dry, windy conditions helped the fire along. It took until Friday to get it fully under control. |
| The forecast for this Memorial Day weekend is for more of the same weather with temperatures as high as the 80s, unusually low humidity and gusting winds. |
