Surprise Snow

Brr. What a way to wake up. This photo was taken last Thursday, May 11th! The camp was set up for a Fish and Wildlife Shorebird Survey, on the northeast side of Becharof Lake. After the snow stopped that day, the surveyors were able to complete their work.

Becharof Lake is Alaska's second largest lake, thirty-seven miles long and fifteen miles wide. The Becharof region is one of the largest (1.2 million acres), and most recent entries into the National Wildlife Refuge System (established in 1980).
