Driving to King Salmon Before a Road was Built!
This is taken about 1949 or 1950, prior to when the road to King Salmon from Naknek was built. These trucks were crossing Paul's Creek above where the road goes now. This was a winter trail only and probably was pioneered by dog team trails and GI's from King Salmon. Monsens hauled aviation gas in drums, for the airlines, over this trail in the winter. In this photo, the first truck had broken through the ice on the narrow creek and they were about to pull him out with the second Monsen Transfer truck.
