Katmai National Park and Preserve, July, 1999

This is both looking back into our archives, and looking ahead toward the summer months. This picture is taken of the lower viewing stand on the Brooks River. This stand also serves as a waiting area for hikers taking their turn to go to the Falls. Here the bears often walk upright to get a better view of the fish in the clear, calm water below. Another viewing stand is located at Brooks Falls.
