Rapids Camp
The Army Air Force, later the United States Air Force, maintained a sport fishing camp in this area for about four decades. They had cooking, lodging and equipment for the enlisted men. This area was known as "The Enlisted Men's Camp" as opposed to the "Officers' Camp," which was located at the mouth of Naknek Lake. The Air Force base in King Salmon is no longer in operation but many of the area locals still refer to these places by their original names. This aerial photo was taken about two weeks ago when the river was ice-covered.
