American Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

The word leucocephalus means bald head. However, at one time "bald" meant "white" but not "hairless." This is the only eagle that is native to North America. It's our national bird. This particular eagle in the photo is one of many who winter in the Naknek, AK area.
