Naknek Boat Outing, Mid-1920s
The boat is what was called a pram. This photo has names on the back from right to left: Louie, Otto Gluckner, Martin Monsen, Mrs. Smith, Angelo D'Acquisto. It may be that they were on a tree transplanting trip. There are some spruce trees planted by the white house at Red Salmon. They were there when it was built in the late 1930s and are mature trees now. Perhaps that is one of them in the bow of the boat.
Louie was in the beach gang at Red Salmon when Martin Monsen was beach boss there. He later, in the 1940's, became beach boss himself. He was from San Francisco.
Otto was the cannery foreman at Red Salmon.
Martin Monsen has been featured in many photos on this website. One is on October 5, 2005. He was very well known resident, a pioneer of Naknek, and a community member and leader for 50 years or more.
Mrs. Smith was the wife of cannery superintendent Frank Smith who is shown in November 14 and November 15 photos.
Angelo came up every spring. He had a popular restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco called D'Acquisto's.
