Nakeen Cannery, 1952
These boats are tied up, waiting for a fishing period. Nakeen is located on the west side of the Bay, across from Graveyard Point. The year 1952 was when power boats were first allowed to fish in Bristol Bay. The boats in the photo are a mix of sailboats, converted sailboats (either inboard or small outboards), and power boats.
If you would like to see Nakeen as it looks today, we've had aerial photos of it featured on this site. Examples are Nov. 8, 2003 (by Linda Mohagen) and Nov. 3, 2004 (by Jim Whybark).
