Mt. Griggs
This is a view of Mt. Griggs, looking east from Sugar Loaf Mountain. It's an estimated distance of 25 miles away. Mt. Griggs is an active volcano, part of the Aleutian Range. It is located in Katmai National Park. It stands 7,602 feet and was named after Robert Griggs, one of the explorers send by the National Geographical Society in 1916, to investigate the Katmai eruption of 1912. He came upon an enormous valley, with thousands of fumaroles, and named it the "Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes."
