Bristol Bay Red Salmon - Ask for Them in Your Stores!
Continuing yesterday's subject, Alaska's beautiful sockeye (red) salmon are a product rarely seen in stores in the United States. The majority of these are shipped to Japan.
The vivid red color is natural, unlike many kinds of farmed "salmon" which are dyed.
Alaskan Sockeyes are the healthiest to eat due to the fact they are single-cell plankton feeders. Thus any pollutants do not get concentrated as they move up the food chain. Most other commercially marketed fish, feed on smaller fish. This concentrates the chance of pollutants, with each cycle of the food chain.
