Final Preparations of Sailboat - Lake Clark
If you've followed this for the past four days, we have been showing the steps to rigging a restored Graveyard Cannery sailboat, which was featured at the Lake Clark National Park Service Open House and Maritime Exhibit Dedication in Port Alsworth.
In the photo above, they are getting the sail on the mast (with hoops) before raising it.

In this photo, they are lifting the mast. You can see the oar locks. For low wind conditions two sets of oars were necessary so both fishermen could row.
The practice was to store and number, as a set, the mast, boom, and sprit. This would help insure a better and more effective fit. Some sets were heavier than others, so every spring there was some competition for the best setup. The mast, boom, and sprit were mismatched for this boat and so the fit was not perfect.
