| Augustine Volcano |
| This is looking out a portside window of a Peninsula Airway's Saab 340. The nearly perfect cone-shaped mountain rising out of the waters of Cook Inlet, in the upper center of the photo, is Augustine Volcano. It is 171 miles southwest of Anchorage, AK. Augustine is one of the most active volcanoes in North America. It has had six eruptive periods in the past 115 years, the most recent eruption in July, 1998. It has sent ash plumes as high as 39,000 feet. |
