| In setnetting, the web (net) is laid out on the beach when the tide is out. When the tide comes in, the web is lifted by the cork line and, hopefully, begins to catch fish. The white (in this photo) corks are the part of the net that holds the net top up. The bottom of the net is held down by another line, called the lead line. The yellow rope in the photo is called the running line. It is held in place by stakes or screw anchors (see July 4, 2005 photo). It sets the beach nets and holds all the parts together. The crew pulls themselves along the running line, in their skiff, in order to pick fish from the net. |
