Our Beautiful Bristol Bay Salmon

This picture is of the five species of salmon. From left to right are King (Chinook), Silver (Coho), Red (Sockeye), Chum (Dog) and Pink (Humpies). Our fishery is primarily red salmon. The others make up a very minor part of the run. The kings average 25 lbs., silvers 8 lbs., reds 6 lbs., chums 7 lbs. and pinks 4 lbs.

The canneries pay the fishermen and women the following prices per pound: $0.25 for kings, $0.40 for reds, $0.30 for silvers, $0.05 for chums and $0.00 for pinks. It is interesting to compare these prices with what you pay for them in the stores.
