North America's Highest Mountain, Mt. McKinley (aka Denali)
Denali (Mt. McKinley) is 20,320 feet (6,194m) above sea level and the highest point in North America. It's located between Anchorage and Fairbanks in Alaska, (at latitude 63 degrees north).
The north peak was first climbed in 1910 by climbers who planted a 6 by 12 foot American flag on a 14 foot spruce pole. In 1913, the south peak was first climbed by a party lead by Hudson Stuck, an American missionary and explorer.
Denali is the crown jewel of the Denali National Park & Preserve, which is covers more than 6 million acres.
