Augustine from South Naknek
This photo was taken in South Naknek, at 4:49 PM, Friday, Dec. 13th, about sundown, with a telephoto lens.
Augustine is a 4,134 foot volcano, located in lower Cook Inlet, about 180 miles southwest of Anchorage and about 100 miles away from where this photo was taken. The volcano last erupted in 1986. Friday it started with three eruptions in the morning, sending ash clouds more than six miles into the sky. Then there was a fourth eruption about 9 minutes before this photo was taken. Scientists are saying that a bigger eruption is likely to come.
