| Slaviq Stars, South Naknek, 2005 |
| The Russian Orthodox Church, which goes by the Julian Calendar, celebrates Christmas, January 7th. Part of the celebration of Slaviq is the twirling of the Christmas star. People follow the star and go from house to house, singing hymns and Christmas songs. Orthodox Christmas is a seven day holiday beginning on January 7th. (New Year's Eve is on the 13th.) |
