What is It??

This rock, approximately 6 inches across, was found sticking out of the bank on the Naknek River. Does anyone have any ideas about what could explain this shape of a rock? (It is completely the work of Mother Nature, not humans.) One theory given to us was that it was formed by bubbling mud springs.
