Waxing Crescent
If you had been looking at the skies from Wasilla, Alaska on February 20th this might be what you would have seen. The skies have been very clear at night, due to the below zero (F) temperatures.
It takes the moon an average of 29.5 days to orbit the earth. If the moon appears smaller than a quarter moon, we call it a crescent moon. If the moon is getting bigger, it is referred to as a "waxing moon." This is the phase that is often used for Man in a Moon drawings.
