Geothermal Test Drilling Team at Work for Naknek Electric

Geothermal, also called "earth heat" energy is a naturally-occurring heat, found in the earth's surface in some areas. Its ultimate source is decay deep within the earth. It obviously has potential in the Alaska Peninsula! Not too far away and comparable to the Alaska Peninsula is the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia. There, a geothermal power plant is providing an Anchorage-size city with one-third of its electricity.

Geothermal energy is currently being explored by Naknek Electric Association. NEA serves Naknek, South Naknek, and King Salmon. What a boost this would give to these communities if this comes through! (Information taken from Alaska Report . Go to that site for a more complete description.)
