Float Plane on the Sunnyvale
This was Nick Monsen's 1946 Taylorcraft, flown by him and by Ed Hanson. They landed out in the Bay to visit Carl Aspelund, who was skipper of the Sunnyvale. On landing in the ground swell, a pontoon tie rod broke and one wing ended up in the water. Carl maneuvered alongside and, with his ship's gear, lifted the craft on deck where repairs were made. Subsequently the plane was lifted back into the Bay where a successful takeoff was made. No injuries or damage resulted. Just another day in Bristol Bay. Probably taken about 1950.
