Measuring the Depth of the Overflow and Colder than 30 Below (F)

This vehicle is testing the water before attempting to cross the frozen Naknek River. The ice on the edge of the river freezes itself fast to the bottom. The ice behind the vehicle is floating with the tide. They back into the water to avoid drowning out the engine if the water seems too deep.

This was taken in the late afternoon, Sunday, January 31st.
