A Fearsome Meal, Indeed - YECH

Although we (littau.net) know nothing about the NBC series "Fear Factor" and probably won't pursue further knowledge of it, it is related to the photo of the day.

During Bristol Bay's recent Winterfest, there was a "Fear Factor" eating contest. Each contestant had to eat a meal like the one shown here. It consisted of: (on the right) five boiled smelt, (left) five fried smelt. The cup contained frozen raw smelt and seal oil. In the background, beyond the scope of the photo, is a jar of "smeltshake," consisting of six raw smelt ground up in a blender. None of the smelt were cleaned and gutted. For dessert were five LIVE mealworms.

There were participants and winners (?) although we will not report their identity here.
