Little Stranger in a Strange Land
This is a Northern Saw-Whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus). The average length of this owl is 7 1/2 inches.
Of interest is the fact that this variety of owl isn't supposed to be in our region. This particular one had been injured and possibly had a concussion. After he was discovered, he was taken to Fish and Wildlife in King Salmon. They sent him to the Bird Treatment and Learning Center, ( Bird TLC ) in Anchorage.
He arrived there safely today and ate a hearty meal of two small mice. There will probably be an update on this site later, as the bird, hopefully, recovers.
