ADF&G Marker Buoy, 1977
Alaska Department of Fish and Game use these huge buoys to mark the boundaries of the various commercial salmon fishing districts in the Naknek-Kvichak area. This particular buoy was the South Naknek marker near Johnson Hill. ADF&G contracted with Columbia Ward Fisheries to place these in the spring and to pull them at the end of the season. Even with powerful equipment to do this, it would take around three pulls to get the buoy, chain, and anchor on deck. The buoys were stored at Pederson Point during the off-season.
