Distorted Peulik
In the distance are the northeast slopes of Mt. Peulik. It actually has a smooth, rounded top, but the appearance in this photo is caused by a mirage (temperature inversion). Mt. Peulik (pronounced pyoo-lik) is about 62 miles southeast of Naknek and is 4,835 feet high, rising from near sea level.
In the foreground is the Naknek River, which is beginning to be covered with a lace of ice.
