Naknek Mail System, 1930s

This is a photo (probably taken in Akutan) of the Starr, which was mailboat out of Seward to Alaska Peninsula villages (including Naknek ship's anchorage). Later the Fern delivered the mail from Seward to Naknek. It had a shallow enough draft to come in the river with the mail. The Starr was a converted whaler and did not come in the river.
