Smoke in Naknek
This photo was taken around noon, on August 23rd, from near the Delta Western dock. The smoke of multiple fires in the Alaskan interior caused visibility to be less than a half mile. It was difficult to see across the Naknek River to the south bank. As of the middle of August, there were more than a hundred fires burning across the state. Air quality warnings were being issued in many places and conditions were described as ranging from “very unhealthy” to “hazardous.”
