A Tribute to Cress P. Hale, 1872-1937
This was a memorial, set up at Bristol Bay Packing Company (now known as Pederson Point Cannery), when Crescent P. Hale died. It now sits in front of the museum in Naknek.
It says: A Stanch Ship Sets Sail for Distant Shores. For fifty years he made the long voyage to Bristol Bay. In 1887 he built the first cannery on the Nushagak River. Throughout Alaska he was known as one of the pioneers responsible for the founding and development of the red salmon industry. We, who knew him, admired his integrity and ability in a way that words cannot express.
Crescent P. Hale was manager of both Northern Fisheries, Inc. and Bristol Bay Packing Co. At one time, the plant at Pederson's Point was the largest of its kind in Alaska.
