| Smelt, Naknek River, King Salmon | ||
| This monster was caught during the Smelting Derby, part of the Winterfest activities on Saturday. Prizes were given for the largest smelt, smallest smelt, and most smelt caught during the half hour period. The smelt were not biting, being dependent on the tides, which were not cooperating at the time of the contest. This smelt was in contention for winning all three prizes for half the period, but was only leading for the largest when the photographer departed the scene. It measured about 6" long, which is quite long for a smelt. | ||
